David Jackman

David Jackman is the former President of the Proclamation Trust, formed in 1986 to encourage ministry that seeks above all to expound the Bible as God’s Word for today. Under its auspices he was founder-director of the Cornhill Training Course (a one-year course designed to provide Bible-handling and practical ministry skills to those exploring their future role in Christian work) from its inception in 1991 to 2004. David remains involved in the Trust’s conferences for preachers and production of distance learning materials and books. A regular preacher at St Helen’s Bishopsgate, London, David continues to be active in training expository preachers and supporting local church ministers, as well as speaking and preaching at Bible conferences in the UK and abroad. Before joining the Proclamation Trust, David was Senior Minister of Above Bar Church, Southampton –a free church congregation in the city centre. He joined the staff there in 1976, having studied theology at Trinity College, Bristol, and worked for six years as a staff worker with the Inter-Varsity Fellowship (now UCCF). He read English at Cambridge University and was a grammar school teacher for four years. David is married to Heather and they have two adult married children and four grandchildren. His spare-time interests include historical biography, piano playing and walking. David has written several books, including Opening Up the Bible (Hodder & Stoughton, 2006), Spirit of Truth (Christian Focus 2006) and the volumes on the letters of John in The Bible Speaks Today series (IVP) and on Judges and Ruth in “The Communicator’s Commentary” (Word USA).
